Feeling frustrated in your corporate job?

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

Let’s start with this

If you are reading this you likely have knowledge of Jesus our Savior. Our eternal loving Father sent His one and only son to die for you. Die for you. Pretty huge - allow yourself to feel the weightiness of His sacrifice. Some of us can’t give up our social media but our heavenly Father gave up His son for us. So what do we do with this sacrificial gift and what's it have to do with our jobs that drives us crazy?

Some are called to ministry in a church setting but for most of us, that is not our calling. At least for this season of my life, I am called to be in a corporate job. That does not negate me from being His child in the workplace; it actually means my corporate job is my ministry. The Word states, "...the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and holy nation." (Exodus 19:5-6) - so, His kingdom includes our work offices. And he calls us to be priests of His Word.

What we sometimes lose sight of is that no matter what we do, our greatest calling is to spread the Gospel. Whether you are at your current job while your passion manifests or you love your job, we are called to a great commission wherever He has placed us. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul uses a body and its parts as an analogy to illustrate how we each play a critical role in His Great Commission

But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

The Lord put you in your current job to do just that; you are as critical to His plan as the eye is to the body. That doesn't always mean reciting scriptures or carrying your Bible to your next meeting. It actually means doing our very best to be and love like Jesus Christ did in everything we do. For me and you, that includes our corporate jobs.

Are you working every day, every task, every email in excellence as unto the Lord? We may have worldly bosses and managers, but we as Christians we are called to carry our cross all the time and work unto the Lord (Col 3: 23).

If you knew Jesus was on the receiving end of the email you sent or the presentation you completed, would the quality of your work change? This mindset may not alleviate your frustrations immediately, but I challenge you to remind yourself of this daily and assess your frustrations.

'til next time, loves!
